CHAT PACK QUESTION #5

Through the use of a time machine, you are traveling back to the year 1850. You may take with you one, and only one, product or invention from the modern era. What would you take with you to impress and awe our forebears?
(Assume that whatever you take back with you will have full functionality, e.g. cell phones will be supported fully. Which is a weird idea.)

It would be hard to beat, now that I mention it, a fully locked and loaded cell phone, with camera, mp3 player, internet access--INTERNET ACCESS!--and my Aunt Jean's phone number.

But putting that aside...

How about a Harley?

Broad-spectrum antibiotics. Lots of 'em.

Evan, if there had been more responses, I was going to crown your's the winner. But then I got to thinking, darn it.

If I go back with a cell phone, the folks I meet would be impressed for awhile. They'd crank out a few text messages, and surf the internet, and wonder. That history would soon enough become legend, and then just myth. No real harm done.

But antibiotics! You'd change history, and I don't mean in a nice way! You'd keep some old scumbag no-good dirty-double-crosser alive who would have otherwise expired without having spawned heirs. His heirs would carry that no-good scumbag gene all the way down through time until one of them would become your mother-in-law.

I'm just sayin'.
